Hororata, Darfield Have Easy Wins At Malvern
Decisive wins were scored by Hororata and Darfield in the Maivem sub-association’s Rugby matches on Saturday. Hororata beat Black Diamond, 22-0, and Darfield beat Kirwee, 21-3. An Annat combined team caused a minor surprise by beating Second Battalion, 13-3. Darfield V. Kirwee In a fast and open game. Darfield was too strong all-round for Kirwee. The Darfield backs played the major role in Darfield 's large win. Their speed and combination produced some very good movements. For Kirwee. J. Feast and J. Buckley were hard-working
forwards and P. Pascoe played well in the backs. M. Redfern and D. Adams were the best of the Darfield backs and M. Moore, A. King and T. McLachlan stood out in the forwards. For Darfield. M. Redfern (3). D. Adams and R. Munro scored tries; G. Higden converted three tries. M. Calder kicked a penalty tor Kirwee. The referee was K. Stevenson. Annat v. Second Battalion
Quick to seize on any handling errors by the Battalion backs. Annat brought off a surprise win. It was a fast-moving game and the deciding factor was the speed of the Annat forwards—for the Battalion backs looked more dangerous. For Annat, M. Wililken. R.
Dunnage and W. Graydon scored tries and R. Glassey converted two. The referee was Mr J. Holliday. Hororata v. Black Diamonds The lighter Black Diamonds forwards did well to hold the powerful Hororata pack for most of the match but once the weight of the Hororata forwards began to tell, points came very quickly. Both teams made every endeavour to open up play and there was some good, fast open Rugby. For Hororata. tries were scored by W. West, A. Benson, T. Huna, L. Ciucas, and M. McCallum; P. Shaw converted one try and kicked two penalties. The refere was Mr A. Adams.
