WIDE RANGE OF WORK

City Catholic Women Giving only a brief outline of a year’s work, the annual report of the Catholic Women’s League of the Diocese of Christchurch, its circles and branches, covers 16 foolscap pages. This is an indication of the wide field of activity undertaken by league members in the parishes, for the community, and for national and international organisations. The league made donations of £1043 to the church missions during the year as well as sending away goods to the value of £595. It contributed to the Holy Name Seminary Bursary Fund the St. Peter the Apostle Fund, Maori missions, a Fijian student fund, the Rice Bowl Appeal of the Save the Children Fund (as well as sponsoring two children), and has supported many other community appeals. The league is represented on the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women, the Pain-Pacific and South-east Asia Women’s Association, the Save the Children Fund, C.0.R.5.0., the Mayor’s Coal and Blanket Fund, Langforfi House comforts committee, the Red Cross Good Neighbour Service, the Society for the Protection of Home and Family, Glenelg Health Camp, the National Society on Alcoholism, the Aged People’s Welfare Council and other organisations. Members have assisted with selling health stamps, collected for community street appeals, and taken an active interest in Children's Book Week. They have entertained Asian students as an organisation and in their homes. They took part in the Christian Family Year project and attended a special mass on World Day of Prayer. The circle reports indicate the active interests of members, such as visiting the sick, drama, discussions, homemaking, music, floral arrangement and many others.
