ELECTION DATE

Addington May Be Affected The date for the General Election in November could affect the start of night trotting at Addington. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club intends holding its first night meeting on Saturday, November 23, with the second night a week later. Both Saturdays are being f-eely suggested as the date of the General Election, with growing support for November 30. The club could be in an awkward position if November 23 is chosen for the election, but if November 30 is chosen, the difficulties should not be as great. If the election is on November 30, it is expected that the club will hold its first night meeting on a week night between November 19 and November 21, with the final night on November 23. A shortening in the time required to run the cup meeting in normal conditions would be appreciated by owners, trainers and the public. In particular, outside owners and trainers would be encouraged to bring their horses to a four-permit meeting spread over less than a fortnight, than to the same meeting spread over almost three weeks. The first two cup meeting permits will be used on Tuesday, November 12, and Friday, November 15. both meetings being run in the day.
