Magistrate’s Court CYCLIST SWORE AT TRAFFIC OFFICER

Told to put his lights on, • cyclist turned, spat on a traffic officer, and rode off. Mr E. A. Lee. S.M., was told in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Followed by the traffic officer, the cyclist then swore at him. Before the Court was Jack Douglas Miller, aged 54, a custodian, who was convicted end fined £lO on a charge of using obscene language in Manchester street on August 19. He pleaded not guilty. On a charge of being drunk in a public place, to which he pleaded guilty, he was fined £l. Traffic Officer J. S. Tranter said that after the spitting incident he folloved Miller in a p.trol car. Miller, obviously intoxicated, swore at him. REMANDED Facing a joint charge of theft of a transistor radio, valued at £B, on August 3. William George. Scott, aged 32. and Ray Harold Beckham, aged 19. both carpenters. were remanded on bail to August 26. FINED £2O Fines totalling £2O were imposed on a Palmerston North company manager, James S. Shand, on charges arising from a collision at the corner of Moorhouse avenue and Ferry road on June 13. Shand, who did not appear. was fined £lO for careless driving and £lO for failing to stop. He was ordered to pay costs on a charge of failing to ascertain whether anyone was injured. Mrs M. T. Austin said she was stopped in a line of cars when her car was rammed from behind. Traffic Officer M. McLoughlin gave evidence of tracing Shand.
