Canterbury Picks Four Soccer Sides
With representative teams in Dunedin, Invercargill and Christchurch, and Nomads playing the national Chatham Cup final against North Shore at Wellington, August 31 will be a full day for Canterbury soccer. Two trophies for representative games will be at stake in Dunedin—the Jones (senior) and Ruddiman (under 20). In the first legs last month, the senior team won, 5-2, and the under 20 was beaten, 5-0.
The teams were announced by the sole selectors, Mr V. Smith (senior) and Mr R. Storer (under 20) at last evening's meeting of the Canterbury Football Association They are: Canterbury A v. Otago (Jones Cup), at Dunedin: K. Flintham; P. Flynn (Shamrock). R. Smith (New’ Brighton); H. Taylor (Shamrock), D. Niven (Technical O.B.), P. Frost (Western), captain; H. Nelson (City), T. All under 20 players and National Cup team report South Hagley Park, Sunday, August 25. 10 a.m. —Advt. Evens Omitted The only change in the Jones Cup team that won the first leg is at centre-half, where the former professional, G. Evans, has been replaced by his team-mate, Niven. Evans is recovering from an operation for a broken nose, and the selector decided not to risk him aggravating the injury in what is expected to be a tough match.
