MISS R. REES
(N.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE, August 19. Well known as a successful novelist, and for her stage work for New Zealand's servicemen in World War I, Miss Rosemary Rees died in Gisborne last night. The youngest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs W. L. Rees, Miss Rees was born in Auckland, but lived and was educated in Gisborne. She joined the Brough Theatrical Company in Austraiia, and later went to England. In World War 1, Miss Rees went to France as one of the principals in a theatrical company under the direction of Lena Ashwell. After the war she visited Australia with Matheson Lang's Theatre Company.
In 1922 she toured New Zealand with her own company and in 1923 appeared with the Lawrence Grossmith Company. After 1945 She continued her writing and to 1954 returned to Gisborne to live. She had published 24 novels and a travel book, and recently wrote two more novels.
