CONFERENCE ON EXPORTS
Manufacturers Hear Report The success or failure of New Zealand’s export drive would depend on the Government’s determination to give substance to the recommendations passed by the export development conference, Mr R. H. Stewart said ait a meeting of the council of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association. Mr Stewart was reporting to the council on the local export development conference. He attended the conference and addressed it as president of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation. The object of the regional conference was to bring the recommendations to those persons who were unable to attend the main conference, and to give an opportunity for further discussion, Mr Stewart said. “The atmosphere of the regional conference was fully constructive. Those who had anything to say were able to do so. I consider the regional conference was successful inasmuch as it brought to the attention of all those who attended the recommendations of the main conference, and gave an opportunity to discuss them further. “My view as federation president as contained in my address can be summed up as follows: the Government called the conference ,it has the recommendations; now we await real action,” Mr Stewart said.
