Easy Winner At Matinee "The Press” Special Ser vie* PALMERSTON NORTH. August 20. Copper King, a top two-year-old last season, showed that he is ready to resume racing at Foxton on Saturday when he impressively won a heat at the Awapunl matinee today. Copper King won by four lengths with his rider sitting still against him. Copper King will open his three-year-old career in the Robinson Handicap at Foxton. Horses of his age have fared badly in this particular event over the last 13 years. Copper King could end this record at the week-end. Copper King was in front Inside a furlong. He had his opponents in trouble well before the home turn and coasted home with the greatest of ease. Two-year-olds trained at Awapuni won all four heats of the events for youngsters. Laramie, one of ‘the most forward, j,ust made it in the first heat for colts and geldings. Laramie has impressed in nis work to date. He just beat a Copenhagen ll—Reno colt trained by S. McGreai. The colt was just eaught. He looks promising. A Faux Tirage—Kataban colt was third. Closely related! to Baloo, he is not unlike his elder relative,. He is trained at Woodville by E. Ropiha. Our Sensation, a colt by Sabaean from Pretty Gold, trained by E. Temperton, just beat his stablemate, a Faux Tirage—Smut colt in the second heat. Fairford, a striking colt by Fair's Fair from Rose Marie, was third. Fairford is a strongly-built youngster. He is raced by Mr J. Wattie. In the two heats for fillies, the winners were Fringe and Narbada. Fringe, a Red Mars— Pale Moon filly, won extremelv well from Targui—Good Returns filly. Fringe is highly promising. She is trained by A. A. Temperton. Narbada, a nippy grey by By land from Ninon, had a lot in reserve in winning the second heat from Mighty Nice, a Chatsworth—Marito filly. Narbada could be an early two-year-old winner. She galloped straight and true and could have won by a much wider margin.
