Wanganella Adapted (From Our Own Reporter) DEEP COVE, August 20. The 400 workers to be engaged on toe Manaipouri power project would be provided with first-class amenities and recreational facilities while they lived here on board toe Wanganiella, said a senior official of the Utah-Williamson-Burnett consortium. The Wanganella’s promenade deck, he said, would become general recreation rooms, including a projection room for films, and, he hoped, a wet canteen. U.W.B. was also looking for an area on the ship for physical recreation, and games such as table tennis could be played in one of toe ship’s holds. The whole of the ship’s promenade decks was enclosed in glass. The Wanganella’s first - class dining-room would become toe men’s mess-room. The consortium was trying to avoid, as far as practicable.
putting more than two men in a cabin during the Wanganella’s expected fouryear or longer stay ait Deep Cove. Each cabin would have forced-air ventilation. The ship’s galleys had a charcoal grill, oil fires, and a bakery where bread could be baked. The ship also had adequate refrigerated space for keeping fresh vegetables and perishables, a panitry, butcher’s shop and dairy. The Wanganella would have plenty of bathing facilities for the workmen. AM the baths on the ship would be converted into showers. Toilet facilities would be more than adequate, the official said.
