BOTH HAD TROUBLE
•New Zeolano HASTINGS. August 20 "I remember how I tried to teach my fiancee to drive a car M years ago, and it nearly wrecked our engagement," mid Mr A. Harlow, BJL. in the Hastings Magistrate’s Court this morning. Before him was a young Hastings man, Bernard Joseph Caeeioppoli. who appeared because he was Insufficiently vigilant when he gave his Intended bride a driving lesson. The fiancee. Beverlev Nelsan. a nurse, was charged with driving at a dangerous speed, but had the charge reduced to careless driving. Caecioppoll appeared for aiding
‘rest Association/ and abetting her. Both were fined £lO and were disqualified from driving for two months. Traffic Officer H. W. Byars said he saw a car driven by Nelson cross a Hastings intersection between 40 miles an hour and 45 miles an hour. He gave chase and followed the ear at 40 miles an hour until it eame to another intersection and crossed it without slowing down He was forced to brake to avoid a car. When be stopped the ear. he was told that Caccioppoli was teaching Nelson to drive. “He was eating fish and chips at the time,” the traffic officer said.
