YOUTHFUL RUNNERS
AN interesting innovation ■* * at the Rover Scouts Holloway memorial races on Saturday was the introduction of two divisions for colts (under 16) runners. Sponsored by the Shirley club, the colts’ races were in two age brackets, with separate events for those under 16 and those under 14. The experiment appeared to have been appreciated, as a total of 120 entries was received—7o for the under 16 group and 50 for the under 14. One disappointment, however, was that the strong group of Technical colts, unbeaten this season in teams’ racing, was absent with their school’s sports
team in Wellington. The introduction of another division for younger colts is strongly favoured by the Shirley club, which hopes to show others the desirability of splitting the present age grouping. The Shirley club has awarded a cup named after its present outstanding junior. the Canterbury champion, K. Connell. If the Canterbury Crosscountry Running Management Committee adopts the under 14 division as a regular feature of inter-club events the club has decided to offer the cup to the committee for award at the Canterbury championships.
