Round The Horn
A cruise from New Zealand to England by Mr N. Powell, of Timaru, and his wife will follow the old sail routes, including the rounding of Cape Horn. But, as Mr Powell said recently, the decision to try and round the Horn in their 25ft 3in long yacht would depend very much on the factors experienced at sea, and if necessary a change would be made to an alternative route through the Panama Canal. Mr Powell described his yacht as having the hull based on a modified design of the famous Laurent Giles and Partners boats, and it was suitable for ocean-going. The rig is that of a gaff cutter.
