DEMONSTRATION OF SHEARING
Visit Of Godfrey Bowen Mr Godfrey Bowen, field director of the Wool Board who has recently returned from Russia where he was awarded a medal for “labour valour" by the Praesidium of the Supreme Soviet, will compere a machine and blade shearing demonstration to be given in the Hillmorton High School hall this evening as part of a programme organised by the Hillmorton High School and Hoon Hay School Parent-Teacher Associations. The shearers will be Mr D. Hammond, the New Zealand blade shearing champion. who will use the blades, and Mr W. C. Johnston. North Canterbury district shearing instructor for the Wool Board, with the machines They widl be shearing at the same time; Mr Bowen will also speak about wool and his recent trip to Russia. A wool-handling demonstration compered by Mr L. Galloway, a sheep and wool instructor of the Department of Agriculture jn Christchurch. will be given by Messrs W Wylie, of West Melton, and W. Breitmeyer of Little River, who were members of the sheering and wool handling team which won the South Island final of the Young Farmers’ Club shearing and wool handling contest early last year, and went to Australia.
