LAWN TENNIS OPAWA KEEPS LEAD IN WINTER CONTEST

Opawa retained its lead in the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's winter inter-club competition at Wilding Park yesterday when it beat Redcliffs by 5 matches to 1 in the seventh round at Wilding Park.

Beckenham, one of the teams which was second, lost its position when it was beaten by Avonside I by 50 games to 39 when each had won three matches. St. Albans beat South Christchurch by 6 matches to 0 and this left it in second position on its own. In the other contests Avonside II beat Avonside 111 by 6 matches to 0 and University beat Sumner by 43 games to 40. The points are: Opawa 7, St. Albans 6, Avonside I 5, Beckenham 5.
