rpHE first flour African studx enas to take tibe Diploma Ln Agriculture completed toeir course ait Lincoln College yesterday. These students arrived Ln New Zealand flrocn Tanganyika in January of last year and were among the first holders of Special Commowweaiith Aid to Africa Programme (S.C.A.A.P.) Fchotarships. After spending two terms at the college they went out in August to do six months' farm work and became fam-
iltar figures in various partis of tihe Souitlh Island. Raphael Rwas® (in the foreground below) in particular, is wellknown to Southland people. The diploma course, in addition to lectures and praotiaal farm work, covers a wide range of technical work. In the photograph below, the students can be seen With some off the equipment they have made in the college engineering workshop—harrows and harrow bar, roof carrier, welded pipe gates.

To gain a wider understanding of New Zealand farming, the students will heave shortly to work on Waikato dairy farms for three months before returning to Tanganyika flor Christmas. In their own country they will join the Department of Agriculture as field advisory officers.
