RACING Stablemates Picked For Jumping Races

Port Lanyard and Chartlea Park may win the steeplechases for the Anderton stable at the Otago Hunt Club’s annual meeting at Wingatui today. Port Lanyard is in the Otago Hunt Cup Steeplechase and Chartlea Park is in the B. S. Irwin Memorial Steeplechase.

Chartlea Park is owned by Mr J. S. Hamilton, who also races Port Lanyard in partnership with Mrs Hamilton. Both horses are seasoned after races at Riccarton; and race-seasoned horses should have a definite edge on the others on a track that will probably be very heavy. Port Lanyard had two races for two fifths at Riccarton last week. He did not make much of an impression in either rate, but jumped evenly each time, and will have nothing of the class of the northerners like Musketeer and No Offence opposing him here. Grand Monarch, Tarmine, and Bayline should be Port Lanyard’s strongest rivals. Tannine will be one of Canterbury’s few representatives at the meeting. This Waimate-owned and trained Targui gelding stays well on winter tracks, and won the Otago Hurdles on his last visit to Wingatui. He has placed form over country. Moderate Lot The Seaview Hack and Hunter’s Hurdles, the other jumping race on the programme, will have no more than six runners. Elrick, Zetland Leigh, and Race Card have been scratched, leaving a moderate lot to appose Bronze Duke, a winner at Riccarton last Saturday. The Seaview Hurdles is the first leg of the on-course double. The second leg of the course double is the Vauxhall Handicap. The T.A.B. double is on the Tally-Ho Handicap and the G J. Barton Memorial. Donna Maria and Summer Star look the best of the field in the Tally-Ho Handicap and Bold Venture should be hard to beat over six furlongs in the Barton Memorial.
