RESIDENT MEDICAL OFFICER, CHATHAM ISLANDS APPLICATIONS, addressed to the Secretary, North Canterbury Hospital Board. Private Bag, Christchurch, will be received up to 9 a.m. on Monday, September 2, 1963, from qualified medical practitioners for the position of Resident Medical Officer at the Chatham Islands. There is a small 4-bed hospital which is fully staffed. A modern furnished bungalow is provided free of charge. The Chatham Islands have been declared a Special Area under the Social Security Act. The Resident Medical Officer’s duties comprise medical attention to the Island’s population and supervision of the small cottage hospital. A suitable vehicle is provided and maintained by the Board for transport purposes. The salary Is £2225/£2365 per annum, plus £25 per annum dispensing allowance, plus the right to claim Social Security Maternity Benefits. The cost of transport to and from the Islands is also borne by the Board. Applicants will be required to take up duty as from January 1. 1964, or as soon thereafter as Is possible. Appointment is initially for one year, but may be extended to two years by mutual agreement.
