Parliament’s Diary
Earlier suggestions that Parliament might be running out of business were disposed ■ of yesterday morning, ■when two more measures were introduced, making eight for the week. The Mana-pouri-Te Anau Development Bill and the State Insurance Bill each received a first reading. Parliament then proceded to discuss the Estimates.
The following classes (with the amounts actually spent last year in parentheses) were passed: Department of Labour, £1,850,000 (£1,965,232). Mines Department, £lBO,OOO (£116,061). The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said that next week would be taken up with the Estimates, local bills and legislation. He forecast the possibility of a late sitting on Tuesday night “because the Estimates are not moving quite fast enough.”
