Nautical Tactics
The summer-time practice followed by A. M. Holland, yachtsman, of r’nging the meteorological office to obtain a short-range forecast on wind strengths and directions was recently employed by A. M. Holland, footballer, before the Llnwood-Cbrist-church senior championship match at Rugby Park. Holland, who is captain of the Linwood side, was told that the strong
south-westerly would lose much of its force late in the afternoon. Armed with this information, Holland tossed with the Christchurch captain. G. Burgoyne. determined to play with the wind in the first half if he won. He lost —but he could scarcely contain his pleasure when Burgoyne gave him first use of the wind. Linwood won, 9-6, after leading, 6-0. at halftime.
