Fiji To Fight Rugby Ban
(By a Reuter Correspondent) SUVA.
Widespread disappointment in Fiji greeted the announcement that the International Rugby Football Board had refused permission lor Fiji and Wales to play an international match in Wales next year. Rugby officials in Fiji are determined to fight the ban.
Mr D. Robinson, secretary of the Fiji Rugby Football Union, said: “The union Is unable to understand the altitude of the board. It is ludicrous to suggest that Fiji is not affiliated to the thing hut amateurs. It would seem that far from promoting the game in small places life Fiji the board is actively trying to stifle It." The board refused permission for the game because Fiji is not a.Hated to the International body. A request for affiliation last December was turned down because, the board said, it could not entertain new applications.
There Is no professional football in Fiji—either Rushy or soccer.
