Record-Priced Bull
This rising two-year-old bull, Papatahi Flash 2nd, brought record price of 2650 guineas at the national Hereford show and sale at Palmerston North last week. It is shown after it came off the steamer express at Lyttelton
The bull’s new owner. Mr W. M Kane, of Westholm. Tapanui. West Otago, was at Lyttelton to meet it. A new stud breeder, Mr Kane has a 640-acre property at Tapanui. Only about a month ago he bought his first 15 females at the dispersal sale of the stud
of R. L. Gillespie, of Edievale,
West Otago. For these he paid up to 475 gns. Papatehi Flash 2nd is the new stud’s first sire. He comes from Mrs B. M. Donald, of Papatahi, Featherston His sire, Wilencote Flash, is an imported bull, and Wilencote Flash is in turn by an imported bull. CMR Flashrol out of Wilencote Lady Dornina, which was imported in utero.
From next autumn stud cattle will be the only cattle on Mr Kane’s property. In addition he has a flock of 2300 Romney ewes and grows 40 to 50 acres of wheat, which has yielded up to more than 90 bushels to the acre.
The new herd sire travelled south by road on Thursday.
