Is Rose Pruning An Art Or A Science?

which must be trimmed off every individual branch for maximum flowering and healthy development. Pointers for the home gardener who wants a healtry
rose bush with a long blooming season are based on a “percentage” system. Shorten strong shoots by one-third, smaller ones by one-half, and weaker ones to within two buds of the base.
Summer pruning is an aspect of rose cultivation which must not be neglected. After the first flowering, fresh shoots will be seen coming away along the branches. Do not weaken the tree by another full-scale pruning. The summer trimming should be carried on over a matter of weeks as flowers die off on individual branches, taking the branches back to a strong flower shook
