Minister For Peace?
Sir, —The news item that: Sir Edmund Hillary says it is better to defend the Nepalese border with hospitals and schools than with arms, stands alongside another brief item about the number of physical abnormalities in Alberta children having doubled in 1961, a doctor suggesting this may be ■ due to radio-active rainfall. Both statements point to the wisdom of spending and working to build creatively for peace. They support the clause in the Declaration of Human Rights; "Since wars begin in the minds of men it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed,” and indicate the need in every government for a Minister for Peace. Let us ask the Parliamentary candidates if they support the idea in New Zealand.—Yours, etc., N. BECK. July 29, 1963.
