Sir, —In Friday’s issue there is an article dealing with the career of Mr A. 1. Tompkins, the newlyappointed judge of the Supreme Court. The stately ent that he was She first barrister outside the four mam centres t» achieve the a.ssmcition of being appointed Queen’s Counsel is not correct. When the first four Queen’s Counsel were appointed in the latter part of Queen Victoria's reign, Mr Oliver Samuel, of New Plymouth, received this distmetion.—Yours, etc., 1873. July 27, 1963.
