Waves Buffet Mariposa
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. July 29. The liner Mariposa ’ struck rough weather in the Pacific on Saturday. After covering 500 miles she reduced speed from 20 to 16 knots to make conditions more comfortable for passengers. Furniture was stacked and fastened down and ropes were put up to serve as handrails and prevent injury.
Considerate Burglar.—A burglar searched a house, except the bedroom where the householder was sleeping, in Cranford street on Friday morning. The householder went to bed at 2 a.m. At 8.50 am., he found that his house had been entered and searched, and £8 10s stolen.
