England, facing defeat cannot hope to get any relief from the weather on the fourth day of the fourth test against the West Indies at Headingley today. The forecast was for another warm, sunny day. England are 339 runs behind with six second innings wickets standing. England made a bad start when they resumed with 113 runs in hand for four wickets. With only 17 runs added. P. Sharpe was out to the spinner. L. Gibbs. England then needed 322 runs to save the match. The sixth wicket stand was entertaining and dogged with Close and the England wicket-keeper, J. Parks “digging in.” The first 50 minutes this morning produced 50 runs. Gibbs, much steadier with his orthodox off-spin, allowed few liberties, although Sobers beat the bat more often.
