No-one Forgets Whiskey

LONDON, July 29 A new craze by firms trying to get telephone numbers that spell out the name cf their products is worrying the Post Office. Spelling is possible because cei the English dial there are sett of threi letters above ihe figures To get number Whitehall "539 one dials WHI and Shen tht numbers which also spell SKEY. The enure number reeds whiskey. This number was actually obtained by a wine merchant who said: “I find it very useful for business. Lots of people forget the number but none of them forgets whiskey.”

Now there is competition Plumbers in Plumstead wafK PLU6237—which spells plumber. A G.P.O. spokesman said: “We really would not like to encourage this sort of thing. It presents tremendous difficulties Some of these people got their number changed by arranging it privately. We tud not quite realise what was happening until we had seocteoned tihe change-over” The possibilities are considerable. The Church of England might like W0R7447 to spell worship, for instance. The British Medical Association could seek HEA5377 for healers.
