‘Saucer Expert 9 Not Known At Woomera

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, July 24. Dr. Robert Randall, who was introduced as having claimed to have worked in rocket research in Australia, outlined his theory on flying saucers in a 8.8. G. television news broadcast last night.

Dr. Randall, who declined to give his Australian address on the grounds of “security,” said he still worked at the Woomera rocket range. But at Salisbury, South Australia, Mr A. T. J. Woolcock, chief administrative officer for the Weapons Research Establishment, which includes the Woomera range, said: “We do not appear to have any record at Salisbury or Woomera of a Dr. Robert Randall."

A spokesman for the Australian Department of Supply said in Melbourne today that •hv department had no record at any Dr. Robert Randefll ever having worked at toe Woomera rocket range in South Australia The chief scientist of toe Department of Supply Mr W A S Butecnent, said he did not know any Dr. Robert Randall, but he could be "a junior scientist." Earlier. Dr Randall suggested that a flying saucer wo caused the myesterious erater discovered in a Dorset potato field He suggested “bat the saucer was 500 ft across, weighed 600 tons, and carried a crew of 50. It had possibly come from somewhere near toe planet Uranus

According to has theory it made a forced landing and bounced across three fields before righting itself and flying off. Dr Randall led Army men across fields near toe village of Charlton and pointed out a series of markings. These led to the original crater, wh.oh a bomb disposal unit has been probing for nearly a week

He thinks toe saucer’s solar batteries failed. It then made a forced landtag to rectify the fault. But its commander

misjudged toe height and made a bumpy touch down in a series of hops. Dr. Randall led troops to another crater and to a series of marks and depressions. These led to a hole in the hedge of a field, where toe original crater, discovered a few days ago, lies Brambles and grass in toe hedge were burned and leaves covered in ash Samples of scorched vegetation. and soil from some of the depressions were taken away for analysis Dr. Randall said he bad oome to Britain because he "expected something Like this to happen.” He thought toe incident ras linked with evidence of other “landings’ in Australia and France to the last nine years. “We totok these craft are coming from somewhere in rhe region of Uranus." said D' Randall On television. Dr. Randall said he had been working on his flying saucer theory for a number of years.

Sightings Since 1950 He said there had been sightings of markings similar to the Dorset crater since 1950. They had been seen at two-yearly intervals in Australia and France. He did not give the exact locations Working on toe basis of a two-year cycle he had worked out the spacecraft must come from the vicinity of Uranus.

Dr. Randall told the interviewer the markings near the Dorse* crater suggested the flying saucer had legs. The crater had been caused by the saucer’s escape hatch being lowered. “Beings” inside the saucer would have come out of the craft to examine the damage which forced them to land. They would have discovered this could be repaired from inside the craft. This would explain the absence of any other signs on the ground. The spacecraft which had landed at night, would have taken off before dawn after toe repairs had been complet id, he said. Uranus, second outermost

planet of the earth’s solar system, is 1,785,800,000 miles from the sun, the "Daily Mail” reported. Dr. Randall said the saucer landtag was following a “definite pattern.” the “Daily Telegraph" reported. “There were similar authentic landings in Australia in 1954 and 1955 and in France in 1957 and 4958." he said. “If the saucers are following a line of magnetic flux this would lead to Britain. “And the time factor is about right too, if, as we think, these craft are coming from somewhere in toe region of Uranus.” Dr. Randall said, according to toe “Daily Telegraph.” “Each one would take several years to .make the return trip. They would be due about now after the last one to France.” “We think their mission is peaceful and exploratory,” Dr. Randall said, the “Daily Telegraph” reported. "They may well be worried or curious about our atomic explosions for their stability may depend on ours. “They are not more than 100 years ahead of us scientifically. The type of spacecraft of which we have evidence is a kind which we can comprehend and will quite likely be making ourselves inside a century,” he said. Army’s Role In a statement, the British Army Southern Command said: "There is some misunderstanding of the Amy’s view of the ‘hole in the Ground’ at Charlton. "The bomb disposal unit is treating it simply as a normal job, because there are indications of something metallic in the earth. We understand the hole may have been caused by a meteorite. but do not feel qualified to support any other theories as to the cause.” Sergeant James Reith, who is in charge of the bomb disposal squad probing the erater, said he had met Dr Randall at Woomera a few years ago, the “Daily Mail” reported. “You can take his vord as one of authority on these matters,” he said.
