WILLIAMSON PARK

Removal Of Embankment

Christchurch earthmoving firms will be ssked to submit tenders for the removal of the embankment at Williamson Park. This was decided at a meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Hockey Association last evening. The motion to that effect was passed notwithstanding the fears of the treasurer (Mr E. Wickes) that “it might be beyond the realms of possibility.” Mr H. Hobson said he knew where there was a supply of good top-soil and Mr D. Goodman suggested that the contractor who removed the embankment could also pick up the topsoil. It was decided to forward a notice of motion to the annual general meeting of the New Zealand Hockey Association asking that managers of national teams be selected from nominees of local associations.

Mr I. D. Armstrong said that there must be many people who put a lot of work into hockey without any recognition. It would be some small honour to such people. The meeting decided to donate a set of hockey posts and rails to the Cobham Intermediate School.

The secretary of the school (Mr C. A. Pond) said in a letter that “while Rugby seems to hold claim as the main winter sport, we are anxious to offer the opportunity for as many children as wish to play hockey.” j

Permission was granted to the Woolston club for L, "Hobson to play in the senior reserve grade next Saturday.
