LAS VEGAS. July 23
“That was net a heavyweight championship light. It was just an elimination to see who's going to fight me.”
ilhat was how Cassius Clay, unbeaten contender from Louisville, summed up Sonny Liston’s one-round victory over Floyd Patterson when he made an unexpected appearance at Liston's victory party last night. Associated Press reported. Clay said he showed up at the victory celebration “just to make him (Liston) mad.”
Be shouldered his way through the crowd to where Liston was sitting with some friends, and told the massive champion: “You’re just a sucker. My brother could have beaten Floyd Patterson.”
Liston, in a rare burst of humour, replied: “Come on over here and sit on my knee and finish your orange juice.”
