£350,000 Building Approved (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 23. Sketch plans are to be prepared for a new £350.000 building at the Masse: University College of Manawatu The building is to provide accommodation for staff, the general studies division and the library. Government approval was announced by the Minister of Education (Mr Tennent). “This building of 37.000 square feet is the first step toward the physical consolidation of what was the Palmerston North branch of Victoria University with Massey College to form the new Massey University College of Manawatu,” said Mr Tennent.

“It has proved difficult to foresee the exact nature of Massey’s future building needs because the exact composition of the new departments of food technology, pure science and general studies (including the extramural service) is unable to be accurately determined at this stage,’ said Mr Tennent.

“As a result it is proposed to erect a building which, while a permanent one, will have complete internal flexibility provided by demountable partitions.” The staff aocomuiodation would consist of 80 rooms comprising 10.000 square feet Eleven lecture rooms with a geography laboratory and store, a languages laboratory and store and a psychology laboratory would account for a further 9000 square feet with the library making up the balance at 18,000 square feet Probably the building would ultimately become the university library, said Mr Tennent.
