Secondary Education
Sir,—l have spoken to many people and they agree that there is a need for a secondary school to serve the Sumner, Redcliffs, Mount Pleasant, and Heathcote Perhaps even Lyttelton could be included in such a scheme. An ideal site is available—the area between the Causeway and MacCormacks Bay, which could be reclaimed for such a scheme. Here is an ideal situation for a Form I to Form VI secondary school of the Geraldine type now in - its first year. I would ask the people who live in the areas mentioned to give the proposal some thought. There are enough pupils available in these districts.—Yours, etc., PROGRESS. July 18, 1963.
[The secretary of the Christchurch Post-primary Schools’ Council (Mr P. J. Halligan) said: "A committee of the Christchurch Postprimary Schools’ Council is examining the requirements, both as to type and site, for future high schools for Christchurch and the whole general matter will be discussed when the committee’s report is considered by the council at the end of August.”]
