ST. ANDREW’S OUTPLAYED
9-0 Win For Timaru B.H.S. “Th| Press" Special Service TIMARU. July 23. Timaru Boys' High Schobl beat St, Andrew’s College by nine points (three tries) to’nil in the annual match at Fraser Park, Timaru, today. Timaru dominated play, and its heavier forwards, and surehandling and faster back-line, kept St. Andrew’s defending solidly for the greater part of the game. St. Andrew’s was forced to rely on clearances under pressure from ite full-back. P. Stubbings, whose fine line-kick-ing and generally competent handling in sticky conditions was the factor against Timaru gaining a higher pointe tally. ‘ The Timaru half-back. L. Amonono, scored two tries from rucks close to the St. Andrew’s line, and the wing threequarters A. D. Betts, scored a fine try after beating the defence from 25 yards out. Timaru fielded a great driving force in the locks. H. F. Scott and A. I. Gardiner, and the prop forward. I. Taylor. The No. 8. R. F. Mahan, showed promise as a loose covering forward.
Amanono cleared quickly to the backs, and the inside backs. W. J. Archie and P. G. Burn, played enterprising Rugby, and on several occasions caught the defence out of position with clever switches of play. The St. Andrew’s No. 8. A. Smith, and the lock. M. Robinson, stood up best to the solid rucking of the Timaru pack, and with B. Taylor and P. Ullrich were by far the better hunters of the loose ball. In the backs, particularly in the first half. B. Maxwell, at half, and B. Kain, the first fiveeighths, were the most effective apart from Stubbings.
