CANTERBURY HARRIER CHAMPIONSHIPS.—The race for the Canterbury senior harrier title at Rosewill, Timaru, on Saturday was one of the most intense championship matches for many years. Although retaining the title for the second successive year, A. G. Pyne (Olympic) was hard-pressed for much of the rugged six miles and a quarter by the South Canterbury champion, D. F. Dixey (Timaru Methodist). Winning a dash for a fence, Pyne is shown diving through just a stride clear of Dixey, on a steep uphill pinch. The punishing pace set by the two leaders is apparent from the gap to the following runners, the photograph being taken only half a mile from the start.
