THE ALLEGRI QUARTET, which will give a concert for the Christchurch Chamber Music Society in the Civic Theatre on Thursday evening. The members of the quartet are from left: Eli Goren (violin), Patrick Ireland (viola), James Barton (violin) and William Fleet (’cello). The quartet, which is making its second visit to New Zealand has toured extensively in Britain and has taken part in many of the B.B.C.’s most important chamber concerts. It takes its name from Gregoni Allegri (1582-1652), reputed to be the first composer ever to write for a quartet of strings.
