Between 20 and 30 persons have died in flash floods at the mountain resort of Pahalgan.

Unofficial reports said the death toll might be as high as 200

The floods, after a cloudburst last night, brought down hundreds of thousands of tons of rock.

Two hotels were among buddings swept away. Eye-witnesses said it was drizzling yesterday when, suddenly, there was a huge roar.

A wave of water, estimated 50 feet high, bore down on the resort from the Liddar river.

One wooden hotel was seen tossing in the flood before sinking. Another was seen floating away with people perched on M. Rain continued today in the area, reports said.
