Beat The Gun

(N.Z. Press Association) LEVIN, July 1. Toheroa hunters flocked to local beaches at the week-end after reading in a morning newspaper on Saturday that the season opened “today.” But the newspaper was wrong.

The two-month season did not begin until this morning.

The Waitarere ranger, Mr N. Oxnam, said: “There were quite a lot of people on the beach, two days early. I don’t think many toheroa were taken as I stopped the people and cleared the beach up twice. “I’m not prosecuting anyone because they were all misled."
