DANGER OF RACIALISM

Commonwealth Warned (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, June 27. The greatest danger in the world today was racialism, and the Commonwealth had the best chance to see that it did not take command, Lord Home, the British Foreign Secretary, said today. He denied a Communist charge that the British purpose was to divide and rule, and commented: " . . . some of the most influential members of the Commonwealth who today carry great weight in international council have attained a far greater unity than they would ever have possessed bint for the British conexdon.

“It was one of those strokes of ill-fortune with which history abounds thait the advent of Communism coincided with the stirrings of the new patriotism.” he said.

“Communism neither diverted Britain from the process of emancipation nor made the converts which they anticipated among the emancipated.” Certain provisions of nature divided mankind and they were strong. They were colour and tribe or race. “We should not underestimate their innate force and reactionary appeal," Lord Home said. “There are certain manmade divisions in religion and politics.

“The excitement of the Commonwealth experiment lies in the opportunity to heal these great divides. “Britain’s will, and wealth, and power are pledged to this cause," Lord Home said.
