The New Zealand Company Register. Prepared and Published by the Mercantile Gasette of NJR„ Ltd. 256 pp. Price 28s 6d. This "financial analysis of all [well, nearly alll New Zealand companies on the Stock Exchange official list” is at least the third publication of its type in recent years. Until 1959 Jobson’s Year Book was the only annual publication listing the greater number of public companies listed in Australia and New Zealand. In that year two publications appeared, devoted entirely to New Zealand companies. The newest entrant to the field will appeal to a rather more sophisticated audience than either of its predecessors aimed at. For each of the 249 companies reviewed there is a page listing its address, the nature of its business. the directors, principal results and balance-sheet summary, capital details, and comments.

The financial details range over the five years ended (in most cases) in 1962. They comprise net profit, tax and depreciation provision, ordinary dividend, dividend requirement and the earning rate on ordinary capital. The dividend yield (at March 31 this year) is given in most cases.
