(N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. June M In a family triumph at Wellington on Saturday. J E. Robson and his wife. Heather, won the men's and women a single championships in an invitation badminton tournament. So well did the tournament achieve its object—to give the selectors a final look before picking the team to play Australia—that none of the top players was required to play additional trial matches.
The men selected themselves in the first session—Robson R Purse. D. B Higgins, and K. H. Long. The women appear to have sorted themselves out almost as clearly—Mrs Robson. Miss S. Cox. Mrs V. Gow. and Miss G Tompkins. In the men's final Robson beat Purser. 15-11. 18-14. and Mrs Robson defeated Miss Cox. 11-1, 4-11. 11-7.
M J Stossell. of Wellington, made a strong claim for top position in the New Zealand colts side to play Australia with a sound win over R. Musker. N R. Thompson In a match that probably decided the placing* tn the South Island team to play Australia, defeated G. Hintonni in two games. The results were
Men's Singles.—Semi-finals: R Purser beat D B. Higgins. 15-3, 15-12: J E Robson best K H Long. 15-9. 15-4 Final: Robson beat Purser. 18-11. 1814.
Women's Singles Semifinals: Mrs H. Robson beat Miss G. Tompkins 11-0, 11-3; Mas S. Cox beat Mrs V. Gow. 11-7. 11- Final: Mrs Robson beat Miss Cox, 11-1 4-11, 11-7. Mixed Doubles.—Seml-flnal,: Higgins and Miss Cox beat Robson and Mrs Robson. 15-11. 12- 15-10: Purser and Mrs Gow beat Long and Mln Tompkins. 15-1. 15-12. No final was played. Men's Doubles Round Robin Higgins and Long undefeated Women's Doublet Round Robin—Mesdames Robson and Gow undefeated.
