APPEAL FOR ISRAEL

Former Rabbi’s Visit (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 30. Dr. Morjon Berman will arrive in Auckland from Sydney tomorrow evening to conduct the annual United Israel appeal. Dr. Berman, who is director of the department for Eng-lish-speaking countries of the Keren Hayesod or Palestine Foundation Fund in Jerusalem, has had a distinguished career as an American rabbi and communal worker. Before settling in Israel he served for 20 years as a rabbi in Chicago.

He served with the United States Army during the First World War and as chaplain with the 6th Marine Division during the Second World Wan He took part in the Okinawa campaign. He will spend a week in Auckland and will also visit southern cities. His wife. Dr. Hana Berman. is head of the department of biological research into the eye at Hadassah University medical school, Jerusalem.
