Eight pages of the score from the second act of Beethoven’s opera, “Fidelio”— the only portion of the original autographed manuscript still in private hands —were sold for £2BOO at a sate at Sotheby’s in London yesterday. A leaf from one of Beethoven’s sketch books with sketches for the last movement of the String Quartet No. 12 in E-flat major, Op. 127, soil'd for £520 Schubert's overture in the Italian Style in C major fetched £l6OO.

The manuscript of a Schubert string quartet in B-flat major—from another property—sold for £l5OO. Six early editions of Shakespeare's plays fetched a total of £lO,OOO. Various collections of letters—9Bo in all—from or about the Due de Reichstadt, King of Rome. Napoleon’s only son. were sold for more than £B7OO.
