R A. Court (Wellington) won the 1982-83 New Zealand Correspondence Cheas Assoctetion championship with eight points out of a possible nine. Court had twice previously tied for the title, and »■»» second on another occasion. Second place went to A. J. McDermott (Dunedin), with six points. Court retains top place in the association's ranking List, and is now on 884 points, having drawn away from L. Esterman (Christchurch >, who fell during the year to 824 points but is still in second place. Esterman did not compete in the 1982-83 championship tournament. McDermott holds third place with a slight gain to 814 points, and T. van Dijk (Canterbury) keeps fourth position with a small drop in points to 787. Van Dijk was equal sixth in the championship. The reserve championship resulted in a tie between C. E. Evans (Te Awamutu) and W. A. Donald (Auckland' each with 3J points out of five. Evans is the New Zealand over-the-board schoolboy champion. Winners in other grades were: Grade 2, G. R. ter Horst (Wellington); grade 3, G. Dunn (Dunedin) and V. Goodier (Wellington) (equal) grade 4A, B. W. Barnett (Auckland); grade 48. J. N. Rudd (Auckland); grade 5, J. Resetar (Auckland). The handicap trophy was won by G. E. Dunn (Wellington), with W. E. H. Creamer (Faraimu) second and A. G. Bullock (Leigh) third.
The best game prize went to D. R. Walker (Wanganui). D. H. Simpson (Wellington) was second and R F, Patterson (Dunedin) third. Dr. W. A. Johnston ■ (Tai Tapu) has been elected a vice-president of the association.
