Ashby Bergh, Beath’s, C.S.R. Firmer
The most notable gains by New Zealand shares in yesterday’s trading were recorded by two local retailers’ shares —Ashby Bergh and Beath’s. Ashby Bergh rose 2s since previous business on May 22, Beath’s 2s 6d (allowing for the dividend) in first business since February' 28.
Colonial Sugar rose Is on the announcement of the higher profit and dividend, while several other leaders made smaller gains. Rises again exceeded falls by a wide margin, but New Zealand leaders were less buoyant.
