FINED £lO Although a man was only slightly injured when he fell from a partly-built bridge at Earihari, South Westland, the accident would have been avoided if handrails had been erected, said Mr A B. Tuck, of the Labour Department. The bridge builder. Burnetts Motors. Ltd., was convicted and fined £7 for failing to comply with the direction of an inspector, and £3 for failing to observe a safety regulation. The company pleaded guilty. FINED £5 On a charge of purchasing 15 cases of apples from a grower otherwise than in accordance with the Apple and Pear Marketing Regulations 1940. Ronald Penwell, a commercial buyer, was convicted and fined £5. He pleaded guilty. REMANDED Samuel Cairns McCullough, aged 40, a workman, was remanded in custody to June 14 on a charge of receiving wrist watches of a total value o. £36 15s 3d between May 28 and June 11, knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. Charged with converting a cat on June 3. Leonard Kevin Bradley, aged 30, was remanded on bail to June 17. Brian Lloyd Jones, aged 24. was remanded on bail to June 17 on a charge of unlawfully interfering with a motor-car on June 8
