Last “N.Z.” Wakefield In England

LONDON, June 3. Mrs Priscilla Williams (London), the only "New Zealand" Wakefield left in England, was among the guests at the recent opening of the New Zealand Government offices in the Haymarket. a ' , Mrs Williams visited New Zealand last November and made her headquarters at
Wakefield House in Wellington, the site of which she owns. She is of Quaker descent and has a marked inclination towards public work. She is chairman of Fulham
Hospital, is on the board of Charing Cross Hospital and serves on the Kensington Borough Council. Edward Gibbon Wakefield was rs Williams s great-great-uncle. She is descended £ rom Danie ’ Bell Wakefield barrister and acting-Judge of the Supreme Court of New Zealand. grandfather, Charles Marcus Wakefield. went to New Zealand in 1853 and lived there for many years before returning to England. Her father, Captain Edward Marcus Attwood Wakefield, was born in England, but died at the early age of 36, and her only brother, Captain Edward Roger Wakefield, a barrister of Gray’s Inn, was killed leading the attack on Brae Island in Jugoslavia on June 3. 1944. To commemorate the centenary of the death of Edward Gibbon Wakeffeld last year, Mrs Williams arranged a small collection of Wakefield family pictures which were exhibited for several months at the Royal Commonwealth Society’s building in London.
Missionary Service.— Sister Mary Addison, who has recently travelled widely for the Methodist Women's Missionary Union, will resume her nursing service at Tonu. in Buin Methodist Circuit. South Bougainville. She will leave Christchurch on June 22. This will be her third term of service. says the "Methodist Times.”
