Strong Move

"Hie Sydney market made a strong forward move over the last week, according to the exchange weekly report. Turn-overs wert substantially higher than in the previous week and most sections of the market shared in the improvement. The share price index firmed almost two points to just over 317.00. Sugar shares were rather uneven. C.S.R. gaining 6d to 64s 9d, Pioneer Sugar, 2s to 51s 9d. but Fairymead fell 2s 3 ’ to 49s 9d. Millaquin was unchanged. Sydney retailer, David Jones? made a strong gain on Friday to touch 22s 9d, but by Wednesday morning had eased to 21s 6d. thus wiping out the week's rise. Arnpol nights firmed steadily on heavy turnover, reaching Is Id on Tuesday as against 9Jd last Wednesday. B.H.P. was up 9d to 53s 3d. but A.CJ. was steady at 64s 9d. Tooth's Climb „ A feature during the week was the steady climb by Sydney brewer, Tooth and Co., which reached 79s 6d this morning, this being an advance of 2s 3d since last Wednesday and 5s 9d in just over a week. The newly-listed Commercial Guaranty opened strongly today selling around 6s 6d following its flotation at ss. New cash issues announced during the week received " a mixed reception. Commercial and General Acceptance improved 3d to 12s on news of a one-for-four issue at a 2s premium. Functional holdings rose to 9s 6d on news of a one-for-four par issue last Friday, but eased back to a seller at 8s 6d this morning. Most interest in the mining market has centred around North Broken Hill, which improved Js to 29s 3d and Planet Oil. which rose from 4s 4d to 4s lid before retreating to 4s 6d. Planet's Warrinilla No. 1 well produced a gas flow last week at 3380 feet and is now well below 3600 feet
