SUPPLIES OF POTATOES
Stocks Less Than Last Year
A survey of potato stocks at the end of last month indicated that, provided early potatoes were available at the usual time, there should be sufficient supplies of main crop potatoes to meet the country’s requirements, the chairman of the New Zealand Potato Board, Mr W. M. Williams, said yesterday. The survey showed that stocks on hand were less than last year, when there was an end-of-season surplus of 5000 tons.
It might be necessary to use for table purposes some potatoes of seed size, but this would depend on the maturity date of the early crop, which had been planted under good conditions and was at present looking well.
Decision Rescinded.—A decision to to appoint an additional ranger was rescinded at a meeting of the council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society last evening.
