Near Record
World production of raw wool is running at nearrecord levels, according to advice received by the Wool Board. The estimate for the current season is 5650 million lb, 1 per cent, lower than the record figure for 1961-62. Figures released at the annual conference of the International Wool Textile Organisation Ln Majorca, show wool output as 4500 million lb in the non-Communist world and 1150 million lb in the Communist countries In Australia, drought reduced the clip by 2 per cent, to an estimated 1670 million lb. Soviet production is expected to rise 1 per cent, to 806 million lb, and New Zealand production by 3 per cent, to 605 million lb.
Output in the other major wool-growing countries is estimated at 386 million lb in Argentina. 326 million lb in South Africa, and 299 million lb in the United States.
