Kurds Told To Surrender
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) BEIRUT, June 10.
The Iraqi Government has given the Kurdish rebels in Northern Iraq 24 hours from today to lay down their arms and declare their support for the Government, Bagdad Radio said today. The National Council of the Revolution, which has ruled Iraq since the revolution in February, said the military Governor of the northern area had warned the population of Kirkuk, Sulaymania and Arbil provinces that any village resisting Government
forces or loyal tribes would be shelled and destroyed. The council’s proclamation said that certain Kurds bad been harbouring Communists, criminals and people wanted by the Government and had refused to surrender them.
The same group had been searching cars on main roads, looting property, kidnapping citizens and officials, attacking remote police poets and committing other crimes. To restore security, the broadcast said, it had been decided to clear the nortlvern regions of the remnants of the Barzannis and their followers.
